Crawl Spaces can Flood, too!

There are three types of foundations that you typically see in the housing industry.  The first is a slab, the second is a crawl space, and the third is a basement.  This article will focus on water mitigation and the crawl space.

When a home that sits on a crawl space suffers a water damage, there are many things that have to looked at.  SERVPRO of La Crosse has to get under the home and check the joists and beams for moisture, but first, in most cases, need to remove the vapor barrier along with the wet insulation.  This usually creates a big wet mess.  Only then, can proper moisture readings be taken.

Sometimes, minimal extraction needs to happen before equipment can be set.  We have smaller, commercial grade air movers and dehumidifiers that we can use to get the job done.  Once drying is completed, new insulation goes in with a new vapor barrier.
